For IPC Preparation

Join us for our June 13th meeting where a number of our distinguished members who hold their Masters of Photography from PPA will explain Print Competition and prepare our members for the upcoming International Print Competition July 30th - August 2nd, 2017, held in Lawrenceville, GA at Gwinnett Technical College.

This will be a special evening as it's the first time in a long time for us to have a specific Print Competition Meeting as part of our monthly guild meetings including Live Critique of our Monthly Print Competition!

1.    If you want to enter the monthly print competition, bring your print like usual, to the meeting. We will judge the prints with feedback given after the scoring and announce the category winners as usual.

2.    We invite our members to bring in additional “Mock” Prints to be critiqued after our Monthly Judging and Print Competition Critique has concluded.

3.    Please read the DPPA rules and links provided below before you enter the monthly print competition. We want to prepare you for what you will experience at International Print Competition.

If you haven't read Margaret's wonderful online article Why Do Print Competition?” take time to read her article before our meeting. She does a wonderful job explaining how the process works.  The different competitions such as SWPPA, we encourage you to take part in, and experience the benefits of participating.  This month’s Print Competition Meeting will help prepare you for what to expect.

We love this excerpt from Margaret’s article that really hits the nail on the head regarding why you should enter:

“Most importantly, becoming a better photographer for your clients. Rise above the ordinary work of your competitors or maybe even work of the clients themselves. Give your clients a reason to come to you by creating incredible work for them.” - Margaret Bryant M. Photo Cr., CPP

That's what the pursuit of your Master of Photography or Master Artist Degrees becomes as you embark on your journey. You can only get there by entering the IPC Print Competition, but in March, you can get a leg up in the process. Enter the regional SWPPA Print Competition and receive a “Seal” on the back of your print and when submitted to IPC it automatically qualifies for a merit when the IPC Competition is judged. Those seals are 1 point or 1 step closer to the required 13 print competition merits you will need to earn your Master’s Degree.

What are these two degrees exactly?

Master of Photography (M.Photog.)
Awarded for superior photographic skills—demonstrated through the PPA International Photographic Competition, advanced education and service to the industry.

Master Artist (M.Artist) (formerly known as the Master Electronic Imaging Degree.)
Awarded for superior photographic skills—demonstrated through the Artist Exhibition category of the PPA International Photographic Competition (with images evaluated for computer-applied techniques and proficiency), advanced education and service to the industry.

PPA has several video tutorials that will also help explain Print Competition to you from the IPC & District Level, Album Entry, Profiles and Calibration, and Choosing the Correct Category for Your Print. Note that we strive to update our DPPA rules to match IPC as they develop and adapt to different changes within our industry.
